To Santiago

Came across a sign that said 376 kms to Santiago.
Tried to take a selfie with the sign but had to settle for the sign and my shadow.

Las bodegas de Moratinos

Walked through Moratinos and came across Las Bodegas de Moratinos.  In the past these little caves in the side of the hill were used for food storage and wine making.

Day 21 Sept 30 Calzadilla de la Crueza to Sahagun

23 kms today but four little villages to past through on the way.  Much more pleasant walk than yesterday with its long stretch of nothing between start and finish.
Stopped for breakfast in Legidos after 6 or 7 kms.
Eggs and toast.

More Day 19

Day 19 Sept 28 Boadilla del Camino to Villalcazar de Sirga

20 kms - nice sunny day with a wonderful breeze.
Left early in the morning and walked by the light of a full moon. Watched the sun rise behind us.

Pictures from the day

Looking back as the sun rises over Castrojeriz.
Looking out over the meseta. That's me.
Lighting some candles along the way.
Roberta pointing out where we are going. It's a long way to Santiago. It's a long, long, long way ( sung to the tune of It's a long way to Tipperary.)

Day 18 Sept 27 Castrojeriz to Boadilla del Camino

About 20 kms today. One last climb before we hit the meseta (100 kms of flat land). Many dislike the meseta since it all looks the same but I have been waiting for this stretch since we left St Jean. This body was not built for climbing up hill.
Last climb in the background.
We made it up the mountain.

Pictures

A little breakfast before we hit the road.
Some of us are shy in the morning.
Roberta finds a friend. Not so shy now.

Day 17 Sept 26

20 km Hornillios del Camino to Castrojeriz
Overcast - great day for walking. Sun has come out since we have arrived. Would have been very hot walking so glad we arrived early in the day.
Sunrise as we walked.
Castle on a hill.

469 kms to Santiago

Almost half way there.

Day 16 Sept 25 Burgos to Hornollos del Camino

21 kms today. Nice day to walk but got hot near the end of our journey. 4 kms to walk from the centre of Burgos to the outskirts then walked through a few small villages. Father Tom, who is also walking the Camino, said mass in the church for us once we arrived. Just waiting for our dinner now.
On our way.
A little break along the way.

Lots of uphill today and very rocky surface.

Day 14 Pictures

Day 14 Sept 23 Belorado to San Juan de Ortega

Long walk today - 24 km with a lot of uphill sections. Happy to see the town on the horizon around 3:00 pm. Had a bite to eat and explored the historical church. Had mass at 6:00 pm with a beautiful blessing for the pilgrims after mass. The parish presented each pilgrim with a San Juan de Ortega medal to help protect us along the way. We are sleeping in an old monastery. One room with row upon row of bunk beds.
